Work Hard. Play Harder.

I took almost 200 pictures to document our "after-hours" adventures. Needless to say, we won't forget this trip! Here is a peak into 5 days of good times!

Monday we explored the world of western margaritas and taquitas, discovered the performing arts center (and it's intriguing sculptures,) bought a new purse, made some friends from Philly at the Windham Welcome Reception and learned the history of our Hotel San Carlos. It was our first day getting acclimated to the dry heat, using lots of chap stick, but enjoy the great hair day ;)

Boarding the plane after battling the crowds at Gainesville's HUGE airport... ;)-

Layover in Atlanta = beers at TGIFridays!

Cab ride from the Phoenix Sky-harbor Airport: Seeing the first Cactus!

We made it!!

The Lobby of The Hotel San Carlos

The cool 3rd floor pool deck!

Minus the pool water.....?

The "Clark Gable Room"

Sculptures all along the front side of the Performing Arts Center... inspired me to strike a pose!

Tuesday we checked out the new light rail system, fell in LOVE with Kate Aspen wedding favors, bought a new book for our office collection, had fresh tacos and a salsa bar, stumbled across a Hard Rock Cafe and be-friended some Buffalo Sabers fans at the Irish pub downstairs.

Delicious lunch at Baja Fresh

Rock. On.

Downstairs from our hotel...

Look at all the cute leprechauns behind us!

Look at all the cute...beers... behind us? :)

Wednesday we landed at a New York Style Deli with the most amazing corned beef, pastrami and swiss cheese "Skyscraper" sandwich in all the land, hit up Starbucks and got dressed up for a banquet at the Windham.

Loved the Chihuly-like flowers!

Cute set-up and wax luminaries. yummy cheesy crisps

The best smashed potatoes EVER!

Thursday we wrapped up the conference, sucked up as much knowledge as we could, then found ourselves in a cute local restaurant down the street from the convention center. On the menu was the strangest thing: an Ostrich Burger! I figured, what the heck, I'll give it a try. It was....ok. The burger had a very strange flavor that not even ketchup and a pickle could disguise. I was glad to have tried the new cuisine but probably won't be doing so again for a long time. After some touristy shopping for handmade jewelry, we strolled around the plaza area and viewed the construction of a brand-new HUGE Sheridan hotel. The shops and offices were localed by a sweet little stream and waterfall courtyard. Later that evening we discovered the value of Phoenix's "Ambassadors." These are city employees running around downtown in bright orange shirts with the sole purpose of "giving the lo-down on downtown" So neat! One escorted us to dinner and gave us a brief tour of the Downtown ASU campus. We need these in Florida!

Mmmm Ostrich meat!

The guy spilled his coffe trying to take this pic for us. Ops.

What a nice place to have lunch...

Why Arizona?

Why was I in Phoenix anyway?

Well, I didn't just travel across the country for a week of fun (although there was plenty of it!) Sweetwater Branch Inn was kind enough to send Lauren and I to the fifth annual Wedding Merchants Business Academy. The week-long convention was filled with enlightening seminars, expos, networking, demonstrations and dinners at the Windham- all within walking distance of our historical hotel. We really enjoyed the trip, learning valuable information and tips from some of the industries leaders. Speakers and participants came from The Knot, Brides.com, Martha Stewart Weddings, Wedding Wire, Get Married, Assoc of Bridal Consultants, American Disc Jockey Assoc, Assoc of Certified Professional Wedding Consultants,The Wedding Planners Institute, Assoc for Wedding Professionals International and Bridal Association of America just to name a few... ;)

In attendance were hundreds of wedding professionals from all divisions of the business. They came with fresh perspectives and open minds, and were all eager to share experiences and trade tips. Overall it was quite an energetic crowd (especially the DJs!!) We filled pages and pages with notes and ideas- and came home with a whole new vision and direction. I can't wait to put some of our ideas into effect!

A Week In Phoenix

Phoenix, Arizona is a beautiful southwestern city filled with history, culture and delicious salsa! It's dry heat and "rock-scaping" contribute to the chic desert feel of the city. I have spent the past few days exploring the central downtown area and have nothing but great respect for the city. It's beautiful. The Convention Center is quite impressive and the choices of local restaurants keep getting better around every corner.

Famous Friday!

"Famous Friday" was actually a few weeks back, but I wanted to share with everyone my experience. As you can see form the picture, I was lucky enough to meet Corey Brewer, the former Gator basketball player and one of the main contributers to our 2 NCAA Championships! He now plays in the NBA for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Let me tell you, he is such a nice guy. Very soft spoken and sweet. Was happy to give us a few minutes to take a picture and chat with me about his trips back to visit G-ville and Coach Donovan. I Always love when a "Gator Celeb" turns out to be a good guy... On the next famous front, we had a big event at Sweetwater the same night for the UF Law School Moot Court- a 2 part event, starting off in the hall with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres then moving into the house for a gourmet dinner. In attendance were a few special guests- The University of Florida's President Bernie Machen and his wife, many well-known law professors and Chief Justice John Roberts of the Supreme Court! So cool! Not to mention all the count marshals running around making sure he was protected. Lauren (our other director) and I were pretty excited about the event considering we were running it and had to answer to all the big-wigs. The night was a huge success and we still talk about it often. We were hoping that Famous Friday would have had one more special ingredient...Joakim Noah! We had big plans to meet him as well, but due to a chance in travel plans, he didn't make it into town until much later. He did however leave his shoes behind last time he was there....

Joakim Noah's shoes-And mine. What a funny picture...!

Next time, I'll be sure to get a picture with more than just his shoes.... :)

Pretty in Pink (and Brown)

The best part of my job comes on the weekends when we finally get to put on the events we have been planning for months, or sometimes a year! The biggest, baddest event thus far has been the Lee/Bowman Wedding. Not only were the couple proud Gator grads, but the bride chose a recent favorite color scheme of mind: Pink and Chocolate. Mmmm. Here are a few shots I took of the night. Their cocktail hour had a playful Gator theme, then the reception hall was decorated with a elegance and style. Her father was a former Super Bowl Champ (Broncos) and gave a beautiful speech and toast to his daughter and new son-in-law. It was a great learning experience to be a part of, along with a fun night and great party! Congrats to Scott and Kelly-

Personalized water bottles to keep the guests cool. Great idea.

Gator Decor in the McKenzie House

Sweetheart table.

The favor (pink box) and menu

Her colors went PERFECT with Sweetwater's light pink walls!

Butter cream cake with bedazzled monogram letters.

Another favor, heart photo frames, served as escort cards to direct guests to their tables

It's official. Here is the new business card. Now I finally have something to give out at the Bridal Expo this weekend. I picked up my cards, along with our Reservations Manager's, this afternoon. We are both pretty excited. Thanks Renaissance Printing!

Remembering that Day....

September 11th 2001.

A day no one LIKES to remember, but a day that no one will ever be able to forget... It's amazing that it has been 7 years since that horrible day. Whenever the attack becomes the topic of discussion, I find people always tend to tell their story about where they were, what they were doing or who they were with. It's incredible how one day -out of thousands- can clearly be recalled by most people. Seven years have passed and we remember the events of that one day like it was last week. Thought I'd take a minute to tell my 9/11 story...

I was fast asleep in Trusler Hall, because what college freshmen would ever get up before noon, when Regina Rosner came busting into my dorm room streaming "They bombed the Pentagon!!!" It took a minute to register what she had said then it hit me that her father worked there. I vaguely remember her dragging me down the hall to the common area where half of our floor was watching the news- I remember seeing the first tower on fire, smoking and crumbling. I got the most awful feeling in the pit of my stomach that went up into my throat. What was happening? Who would do this? And at that moment, the other tower came down. Numbness. The rest of the afternoon was filled with questions, worrying and being glued to the TV. It was awful. But I didn't know how to react. Classes were canceled and the campus was eerie with emptiness. I was at my boyfriends dorm that night when I called home. It's so easy to picture myself sitting on the floor, outside in the hallway, leaning up against those ugly egg-shell/yellow painted walls, talking to my mom and dad. It was at that point, I lost it. All the confusing emotions I had felt throughout the day hit me and I couldn't stop crying. I couldn't speak. I cried for the parents who lost children, for the children who lost their entire families, for the babies...for the sisters and brothers who lost each other, for those left with the awful fear of not knowing. I couldn't imagine how they were feeling. I wanted so badly to be home- to hug everyone I loved and hold them tight. But a phone call was going to have to do. Hearing the voice of my parents made me so thankful they were safe. It wasn't fair that everything in my little world was ok, while others were suffering so badly, and there was nothing I could do to help.

I remember students waiting in line for hours to give blood and seeing a genuine kindness in strangers' eyes. For awhile, everyone was on the same team. I found it comforting that in the face of disaster, the goodness in people was able to shine through and the hero in everyone wanted to help.

The first time I ever visited ground-zero was December of 2006 on a New Year's Vacation to NYC. In route to our evening's destination, we used the train station at The Port Authority. Before I realized where we were, I was standing behind the fences looking into a construction zone. I stared in awe. Five years had past and my feelings never changed. For a brief minute, I froze. All the emotions felt that day came rushing back. It was intense. It still is intense. And it will always be intense.

For the survivors, the heros and the loved ones we lost. We will never forget you.

We Got the Blues...

The good kind of blues that is!

Mom and Dad came up to visit over Labor Day weekend and were kind enough to assist James and I on our next home-improvement venture: Painting the Bedroom! After a fun trip to Home Depot (that took a lot longer than planned because every isle forced me to come up with a whole new project ) we decided on colors and got to work! The paint fumes were quite intense for a few days but completely worth the sacrifice. The new color brightens the room and has made it a much more comfortable and inviting space to rest.

All our bedroom furniture...in the living room!

A Shoot with CJ

I can hardly contain my excitement about the mini-photoshoot I just had with the fabulous Caroline Johnson. So much that I had to run home and "blog it out." :) My friend and former employer graciously agreed to shoot the pic for my new Sweetwater business cards this afternoon. She lives around the corner, so I stopped by and we took some shots right on her front porch- perfect lighting and an easy spot for both of us. I loved getting to spend some time with her! And - as always- she can make anyone look amazing. A huge thank you goes out to Caroline for taking the time to do these for me. She's awesome.

Now.... which one do you like best??
1,2, or 3???
